I saw the work you are doing, and it looks amazing. I am a major Goemon fanboy and have been dying to play the Japan-only titles in English. I am unbelievably grateful for this project, and I know I'm not alone. The only thing I am wondering about is why you decided to remove some of the Japanese font (such as the sign for the bath house, inns, etc) and replace it with English text. Not even the US versions of the games Konami did give us had those things altered. Either way, it's only a minor quibble, because your progress looks fantastic.
For now, this should be a good place discuss the Goemon translations. When I make more progress on Goemon 3 I'll make my own thread. Right now, my graphics decompressor for Goemon 3 is pretty much done. I've made a lot of progress on the custom script dumper too.
Ganbare Goemon 4
My script dumper gets around the scattered pointers; by reading pointers from a pointer location list. Once the script dumper is perfected; I'll be able to dump the games script and I can find a translator. The thing that will take the longest is finding the locations of the scattered pointers. What a coincidence this topic is seeing some movement very recently. The translation to these games are so often in the back of my mind; some of the most fun 2 player co-op games ever made to this day still unplayable in english. Regardless it never stopped me from firing up ZNES and forcing friends to play through it via netplay despite not understanding a thing.
Figures it'd be Konami's games that tortured me like this (still holding out hope for Kippy on Suikoden 1&2 psp) So Avi's last locked topic has left me restless. The way he left the thread to me it seemed he left the status of his work ambiguous. It's unclear that he left his assets with DDS, only saying he thanked him iirc. Is DDS working with Avi's old assets? Are Rai and Gideon carrying on with their own separate versions? This project has to move somehow, curse or not.
Look on the stock tip, where the end of the wood is exposed between the bottom of the barrel and the bayonet lug. That's just where it was reworked. It's also possible to tell who may have made the stock by the shape of the clearance cut for the bolt handle, which varies by maker. Model 1917 remington rifle serial numbers. Most 1917's are reworks. There will normally be an initial there, E, R, or W, indicating who made it, although every now and then you'll find some different marking, possibly indicating a subcontractor made stock.
It's just too good of a game to leave in limbo like this imo.
Easily the Summon Night Swordcraft Story we never got here in the US. Play a boy or a girl, pick a helper (spirit/fairy/robot/something) and you go through an action RPG smithing stronger and stronger weapons. The first two were incredibly fun, and the translations were really enjoyably campy. I haven't really been let down we didn't get a translation of a game since the SNES days. As an aside, every single time I hear news about a new Summon Night game, my heart skips a beat before I realize that Swordcraft Story is just a spinoff series.

As an aside, every single time I hear news about a new Summon Night game, my heart skips a beat before I realize that Swordcraft Story is just a spinoff series. Where do I even start? Mizzurna Falls (Prototype Deadly Premonition, pre-Shenmue Japanese adventure game semi-open world with concept of time and detective gameplay) Twilight Syndrome series (Suda's directorial debut & great for other fans of the original Clock Tower game) Moonlight Syndrome (Precursor/Prequel to Suda's Kill The Past saga) SMT.if (birth of Persona) Front Mission 2 (hurts so much they got so far with it, then abandoned it and nobody picked it back up) Growlanser 1 (most wanted JRPG fan translation, bar none) The other 3D Goemon games as well as the DS Goemon game.
Great Ace Attorney 1 and 2 (Shu Takumi) Yakuza PSP games (x2), Kenzan and Ishin Devil Summoner 1 (plot sounds real good, like the game soundtrack and it's classic old school Atlus, jank and all) SMT: Nine for just curiosities sake, if nothing else. Was the first third person 3D SMT after all. Wachenroder (SRPG with heavy emphasis on linear story) Kowloon's Gate (first person horror adventure game exploring Kowloon developed by a weird Japanese dev, love that old and creepy CG look). I recently tied up Shining Force III: Scenario 3 (thanks again to the good folks at Shining Force Central!) and was thinking about what games are left i'd really like to see translated at this point: - this one rose from the dead years back, but hasn't seemed to move since then, sadly! Shin Megami Tensei: If.
Last i'd heard, this was ongoing as well, i wanna say SMT Sega-CD was up i the air? I know there's others i'm forgetting, but i mostly wanted to complain about Segagaga. Still grateful for Mother 3, Policenauts, Famicom Detective Club & so many others over the years (finally started Seiken Densetsu III this week!), but yeah - which ones are you most dying to see? A lot of good titles have been mentioned.
But there is one special title missing, which i see as my duty to mention:: The crazy Racing RPG Hybrid from Squaresoft. Despite its shortcomings (like the hit-detection), i love it and its one of my favorite games. Played through the game already two times because there is nothing better than leveling up your car on the highway and getting better items from your enemies. Although lot of people think the story is trash, i would love two find out whats it all about. (Can't speak/read japanse) Because the atmosphere of the game is just great, all this night driving in yokohama and the awesome OST which accompanys it. Besides the graphics weren't that bad, i think its looks on par with Gran Turismo and the UI is killer!
Would love to see somebody translate it. Here is my final car setup from my last Playtrough. Cyber Doll for the Sega Saturn, one of the few titles I still own for the system (sold the rest of my collection off ages ago). A flesh-eating virus is wiping out humanity. In response, everyone is made into cyborgs. The battle-system is designed around targeting the enemy's individual body parts while maintaining your own. For example, you can take out an enemy's legs to keep them from moving, or destroy their arms so that they can't attack.
Stats are improved by taking enemy body parts and equipping them (such as arms, legs, brains(??), etc). It isn't too hard to stumble through the game, since menus and other essentials are in english, but I'm still missing out on the story. The rest of the Famicom Detective Club games. Essentially, there's two full games in the series, both for the Famicom Disc System. The second is a prequel to the first, establishing how the characters in the original game came to work together. The prequel got a Super Famicom remake, which DOES have a fan translation (and a good one, too, I highly recommend it).
So we have the chronological first game in the series, but not the follow-up. And on top of that, there's a third game that was exclusive to the Satellaview! I can't even find any details about that one online.
