Its members are incredibly talented, gifted, and athletic.
With rigorous and extremely intense practices, the upperclassmen of the team expect the very best from themselves and they expect even more from the new members of the team. While most of the freshmen are on pins and needles hoping they won't get cut from the team, Ryoma Echizen is confident, cool, and collected. Some might even say he's cocky, but at least he's got the skills to back up his attitude.
With his virtually unreturnable 'twist serve,' Ryoma is sure to make the starting team. Join Ryoma and the other first years, as they train hard, make friends, and try to find a place for themselves on the team. Ryoma Echizen is the Prince of Tennis. He may be ready for the Seishun Academy tennis team, but are THEY ready for HIM? By the way, the Tennis skills in this series is completely beyond normal human standards and includes but is not limited to burning holes in your opponents rackets, striking your opponent so hard he flies several dozen meters, travelling in a spiral in mid air and even shutting down your opponents senses so that they cannot see, hear or feel (somehow) and therefore, has been put under the 'Supernatural' genre. NOTE: It has been announced that these 379 chapters serve as a prologue to a new series currently in the works.
See 'Shin Tennis no Oujisama', also known as 'New Prince of Tennis', for continuation. ANOTHER NOTE: Also, there is a short collection of 4 panel comics under the name of 'Houkago no Oujisama', or 'Prince of Afterschool' featuring characters and inside jokes from this manga.
The series is primarily set in Tokyo, and centers around Ryoma Echizen, a tennis prodigy who attends Seishun Academy, or Seigaku for short, a private school famous for its strong tennis club and talented players. Ryoma quickly defeats numerous upperclassmen shortly after entrance to secure himself a spot as one of the team's regulars.
In pursuit of their ultimate goal of winning the National Middle School Tennis Championship, members of the team make new friends while learning and mastering increasingly complex techniques. Ryoma also begins to develop his own style of tennis, and eventually realizes what the sport really means to him.
By October 4th, 2013, 6:51am Shin Prince of Tennis is a bad manga. I'm another fan, though not a big fan, of the first Prince of Tennis. This is not good. This one opens quite interestingly. But then it's just, wow these guys are too good.
They are even better than these God-like players from the prequel. I can't find anything more exciting; I can't really see any plot going anywhere. I don't know if there is any development because I dropped this series quite early. The story is not sensible. By April 6th, 2013, 10:52pm Yeah, I know, sequels usually aren't as good, but I don't care. Prince of Tennis was just too good. I was so sad when Prince of Tennis was finished.
I'm so glad the mangaka decided to keep the series going. I'll be able to read more about Ryoma and others now. I'm super excited for Shin Prince of Tennis. It's just like the first one, full of action/fantasy elements in a tennis manga. If you didn't like the first one, well you're probably not going to like the second. But if you absolutely LOVED the first one, you'll definitely love Shin Prince of Tennis.
By January 12th, 2013, 2:29am There are a lot of people saying that this sequel is just a piece of shit. Personally, I think they don't understand anything. Konomi-sensei, sice the very beginning, wrote Prince of Tennis series just as an INTRODUCTION to this story. You may not like it, but that's how is it. I still love the characters, and finally Ryoga has appeared in the manga! =) The only thing I feel dissappointed with are the few chapters on each chapter, but well, there are 2 chapters per month, after all. I'm looking forward to the rest of the chapters ^^.
By October 9th, 2012, 5:17am I was a fan of the prequel even though it had those retarded-like super special moves and stuff. I was delighted when I found out there will be a sequel but when I read the first chapter, I knew that the next volumes were going to end in disaster.
First of all, why didn't the mangaka just bury it already?! PoT's finished, everyone's done with the craptastic tennis, the 3rd years graduated, Ryoma went to America. Why was there a need for a sequel, especially in a time setting where they were still in middle school? I can only smell money here, phishing out all the money they can from the fans while PoT is still hot.
I mean, every chapter was thin, the chapters had about 15 pages of ridiculous 'tennis matches' and IT WAS EXPENSIVE than the normal tankoubon! What's with that! And don't even get me started with the art. It NEVER changed, the characters were still stick-like figures with height like that of a giant's despite them being middle and high schoolers. There was totally no development in the characters, the story and the mangaka's skills as well.
But I continued reading it to give it a try, after all, I can see my favorite characters again. It was too much. I sold the 7 volumes that I had. What a total waste of time and money. I don't get how people can easily say it's 'PARFEEEECT 10!!' In spite of the stupidity going on in front of their eyes. But eh, it comes down to people's preferences.
Have fun everyone. Last updated on October 9th, 2012, 5:20am.
